The Center for Youth Evangelism announced today the main speakers for the upcoming 2014 Forever Faithful International Camporee.
Sam Leonor (top left) has been chosen to be the nightly program speaker. Leonor is the Pastor for the La Sierra University students and faculty.
Gilbert Cangy (bottom left) has been chosen to speak for the Sabbath Morning program. Cangy is the General Conference Youth Director.
The two speakers were unanimously approved by the Camporee's Executive Advisory Committee on Oct. 17, when it met to discuss camporee planning.
Details and updates about new things at the upcoming camporee are available in the minutes from the meeting.
Here are some of the highlights:
Nighttime Program
The nighttime program will be based on the book of Daniel, chapters 1-6. These chapters cover hugely epic stories such as:
- Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego's adventures with food
- King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream about a statue
- Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego's chill time with God inside a burning furnace
- King Nebuchadnezzar's dream about a tree
- King Nebuchadnezzar going insane and eating grass and stuff
- God doing graffiti on a wall during King Nebuchadnezzar's party
- Daniel in the lion's den
Gigantic Picture for Facebook
Organizers are thinking about possibly taking an aerial shot of the crowds and let people later "zoom in and tag themselves on Facebook."
New Video and New Website
Look for a new 90-second promotional video to come out soon, as well as new promotional materials. The minutes say that a DVD blooper (reel) will also be provided.
The minutes also mentioned a new Center for Youth Evangelism website to be launched on January 1, 2012.
Mass Orchestra on YouTube
Camporee organizers want to have a mass orchestra made up of kids at the camporee. They are planning on having a system similar to YouTube, where kids upload their audition videos. There have been mass choirs at previous camporees.
Theme Song Contest
A contest for deciding the new camporee theme song will take place online again. This time, there are plans for users to be able to leave comments on the website.
More WiFi and Port-a-potties
According to the minutes, there will be more port-a-lets and gray water dumping stations. Increased WiFi signals will also be available.
The 2014 Forever Faithful International Pathfinder Camporee is a week-long gathering of Pathfinder Clubs from around the world. The event occurs every 5 years and is conducted by the Center for Youth Evangelism.
Forever Faithful will take place August 11-16, 2014 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.VIDEO: How the International Camporees all began.
