In Brazil, a federal court ruled in favor of an Adventist student who was having Sabbath problems at a Catholic university.
The court says the student has the right to skip classes from Friday evening to Saturday evening.
Quielze Miranda, 19, hasn't been able to attend one of her college classes since the beginning of the school year because it is scheduled on Friday nights.
As a Seventh-day Adventist, Miranda believes in keeping the Sabbath from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown, as written in the Bible.
Miranda knew her class schedule would be a problem, so she explained to the university her beliefs and offered a solution.
She asked that the school give her extra-curricular work instead of having to attend Friday night classes. The university denied her request due to "lack of legal support."
After seeking legal advice from her church's lawyer, she filed an injunction in federal court.
She asked the court to substitute her Friday night classes with extra-curricular work so that she wouldn't lose points for not going to classes on Sabbath.

Miranda was afraid this would cause conflict between her and her school, according to an interview. Miranda said she then saw that her friends and teachers at the school supported her and hoped for a favorable decision for her since the beginning.
Thanks to the court's ruling, Miranda indeed has the right to skip classes on Sabbath and get extracurricular work assigned so she does not loose points for missing class.
The court's ruling is bassed on articles from Brazil's constitution and two international treaties in which the country participates, according to G1
Quielze Miranda is a first year international relations major at Universidade Sagrado Coração (Sacred Heart University) in Bauru, Sâo Paulo.

i like the courage of this young faithful lady. may the good Lord grant all of us the same courage to stand up for our faith in JESUS NAME. AMEN!
i have failed severally to keep the sabbath. i even refused to send application to a catholic university because they always schedule there exams on sabbath day. believe me not, miranda just proved me what a coward i am! and also, just learn that it can still be changed if i believe completely.
More people need to stand for their faith and for the truth of Yeshua.
If we trust God, Sabbath issues would always be resolved! I had a training that I was specifically selected to attend...ONLY if I would attend on Sabbath. I told the leader of my Sabbath beliefs, and stated that I was committed to the training, but that I could not compromise on my beliefs. She then scheduled an alternate training schedule for me, to end on Friday afternoon, and one in which I would not be required to attend on Sabbath. In addition to this, I wound up having to pay $100 less than I would have had I compromised and attended on Sabbath! I believe that we will be faced with this dilemma more and more as time goes on, since the National Sunday Law will be what distinguishes us from other believers. When we give it fully to God, rather than wanting something so much that we are not willing to leave the outcome in God's hands, that is when we see God move in mighty and powerful ways!
great article....great faith....and all to the GLORY of GOD!!!
